Vegan cakes

Plant-based baking is our speciality at La Petite Bouche Bakery; it's what we do day in, day out, and have done for nearly a decade. If you're looking for a beautiful, delicious, bespoke cake that's also vegan, you've come to the right place! Whilst that's a difficult set of requirements for some bakeries - you might expect the absence of eggs and dairy to negatively affect the taste, texture and appearance of a cake - it's absolutely not the case here at La Petite Bouche Bakery.
In fact, we can confidently say there's no eggs, no dairy and no compromise with our cakes, and have scores of happy customers who agree.
Since vegan cakes are the default at La Petite Bouche Bakery, they don't really need a separate page - all the information on our website applies to vegan cakes too, and can be accessed via the buttons below. However, we're keen to change the narrative around plant based baking and explain our approach, so do read on if you'd like to know why we do what we do.
P.S. It's vegan...
While veganism has exploded in popularity in recent years, only around 5% of UK adults are vegan. That’s still a relatively small, niche group, so it doesn't make sense for that market sector to be our sole focus. Instead, our mission is simply to create incredible cakes, that just happen to be vegan.
Of course, using only plant-based ingredients is a very deliberate choice, but what our customers rave about first and foremost when they order a cake from us is the divine taste, airy texture, and beautiful decoration. The fact that our cakes are egg and dairy free is just an added bonus - you'd only know there are ingredients 'missing' if we told you.
We believe that great cake should be for everyone, regardless of dietary preferences. We don’t aim to replicate 'traditional' bakes - by focusing on flavour, quality, and creativity, we aim to better them.
Plants for all

At La Petite Bouche Bakery, we're passionate about plant based baking and keen to showcase that vegan cakes aren't just for vegans. There are three main reasons why this matters to us:
-
Inclusivity: for the most part, cakes are for sharing. Having fewer allergens in our cakes means they can be enjoyed by those who can't or don't eat eggs and/ or dairy. Rest assured anyone who can eat traditional cakes won't realise there's anything 'missing' when they eat a vegan cake from us!
-
The environment: in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, agriculture is the second most polluting industry in the world, behind only the fossil fuel industry. Research suggests that a diet with no meat, dairy or eggs could be the single biggest way for people to reduce their impact on the Earth
-
Animal welfare: while obtaining eggs and dairy doesn't directly involve killing animals, their production often involves poor treatment of the animals involved.
See the gallery below for examples of past vegan creations. There are plenty more vegan cakes on our Instagram page, too.
How it's made
We know that some vegan bakes are full of weird and wonderful, highly-processed ingredients, but that's not the case at La Petite Bouche Bakery. By understanding the science of baking - knowing the role each ingredient contributes to the perfect bake - we are able to create recipes that taste indistinguishable from ones that use 'traditional' ingredients. So yes, we understand the science that goes into a great cake, but no, our ingredients don't come from a laboratory - in fact, they're probably store cupboard staples you have in your own kitchen.

Here are a few more things of note about our vegan cakes:
-
They don't cost more: since plant based baking is our go-to, we don't charge a premium for our egg and dairy free cakes
-
You've got options: plenty of cake makers say they can cater for vegan diets, by which they mean they can offer you a choice of either a vanilla or a chocolate sponge... Rather underwhelming and lacklustre! That's not the case at La Petite Bouche Bakery; you'll be spoilt for choice here with our extensive list of delicious vegan options
-
Cakes shouldn't taste like eggs and butter anyway: if you're expecting vegan cakes to taste different because they don't contain eggs and butter, keep in mind that great bakes don't actually taste like eggs or butter anyway. Vanilla, spices, fruit, chocolate, nuts and more are what goes into our cakes to make them delicious. Animal products really aren't integral to delicious cakes after all.
