Single tier cakes

Single tier cakes are the most common configuration we make here at La Petite Bouche Bakery, offering a perfectly proportioned package of taste, texture and design. Our standard single tier cakes are made of four layers of sponge - with fillings such as buttercream and jam in between - and stand at roughly six inches tall.

 

Available in a range of shapes and sizes, single tier cakes can cater for up to 75 guests and are a great choice for all types of celebrations, from baby showers to birthdays to weddings - and more. Like all of our bespoke cakes, each element is designed and crafted to your exact specification to create a truly one-off cake for your special occasion.

Created to suit you

The only thing that's common to all single tier cakes from La Petite Bouche Bakery is their height - approximately six inches. Everything else is tailored to suit you, including:

  • Shape: we predominantly make round cakes, but square, heart and other shapes are available

  • Size: by offering cakes in different widths, our single tier cakes can provide anything from ten to 75 portions

  • Flavour: our long list of options is available here

  • Allergen or dietary requirements: we make plant based cakes be default (free from eggs and dairy) and can cater for a variety of other needs too, including gluten free and nut free diets

  • Design: when you order from us we will work with you to create a beautiful-looking cake that's customised to perfectly reflect whoever or whatever you're celebrating.​

Sizes, servings and prices

Once the guest list for your celebration is sorted, we can advise you on the most appropriate size of single tier cake to choose, ensuring there's plenty to go around without excessive amounts of cake left over.​​

Cake slice

Our most common single tier sizes and the number of people they feed are listed below. These figures are for round cakes, and two portion sizes:

  • A  2"x1"x6" slice, called a dessert portion. This is about the same amount of cake as two cupcakes and great for adult guests

  • A 1"x1"x6" slice, called a coffee portion. This is about the same amount of cake as one cupcake, and is the ideal size for children's cakes or at events where you're serving other food.

As is evident from the photos above, no two single tier cakes are the same. As a consequence, we don't have a standard price list. However, we can give a base price for a standard, plainly-iced cake and will then give a quote for your tailored cake once we've got all the details. This will depend largely on the complexity of the design and how long it takes to make your cake. We are always happy to advise on adjustments to your ideas to bring them in line with your budget, if you have one. Full payment is required two weeks before delivery. Base prices are as follows:

  • Six inch diameter round cakes: from £80

  • ​Seven inch diameter round cakes: from £100

  • Eight inch diameter round cakes: from £130

  • Nine inch diameter round cakes: from £145

  • Ten inch diameter round cakes: from £160.
     

The finishing touch

La Petite Bouche Bakery is located close to Reading in Berkshire. We deliver our cakes all over the south east of England, ensuring they arrive in perfect condition.​
